About Ys I & II Chronicles+

Adol sails through the storms surrounding Esteria after hearing of its misfortunes. The land prospered through silver mining before monsters overran it, and his investigation draws him into a seven-hundred-year-old mystery tied to the forgotten kingdom of Ys and a land in the clouds.

Combat uses contact with enemies rather than a separate attack button, with analog gamepad support. Ys II adds magic and a demon form that allows conversations with ordinary enemies.

What makes it worth a look?

  • Choose the soundtrack and portraits: Three musical versions range from original FM synth to a modern band recording, alongside older or newer character art.
  • Set the challenge: Four difficulty levels and optional Boss Rush provide different demands.
  • PC presentation options: Use a wider viewing area, decorative screen frames or a full-screen viewport, with Steam Cloud saving.

Is this game right for you or your group?

  • For seeing where Adol’s adventures began. The paired stories follow Esteria’s troubles into the history of Ys.
  • For an unusual action-RPG control scheme. Contact-based attacks put movement at the center of fighting, while the second game adds magical options.
